Sunday Morning Thoughts on Internet Marketing & Life

With a respectful nod to Jeff Foxworthy, here is a sign you might be an internet marketer:

“If you think your keyboard makes a good pillow, you might be an internet marketer”

Something to think about: What might change in your business and in your life if you began to live by the following quote on a daily basis…

“Life is not intended as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

                                                                  “WOW! - What a ride!”

Something No Other Internet Marketer Can Ever Claim…

article marketing, jeff herring     I swear I am not making this up….

First, a little background…I’m on vacation with my two sons and dog in the North Georgia Mountains. I am also on a lifelong pursuit of the best bar-b-q in the world, so whenever I travel I ask local people where they go for good ribs.

Everyone told us Col. Poole’s Bar-B-Q. So Sunday afternoon we go.

Turns out Col. Poole is a pretty savvy marketer.  Because his place is on a federal highway, there are certain sign restrictions, and he could not get a billboard put up on his property.

Not to be stopped by a silly rule (I liked this guy already) he used the hill in back of his place to erect small signs with peoples names and hometowns on them. He has been written up all over the world because of the next two pictures…

Now not just anyone can get a sign erected on this hill with their name on it. You have to meet a rigorous set of criteria:

1) You must be of good moral character

2) You must have good intentions

3) You must have $5 - that goes to charity.

Now comes the part about what no other internet marketer can ever claim…

What else could I possibly put on my sign but

They said I was first, and so within a couple of days I will have my web site displayed on the “Pig Hill of Fame” behind Col. Poole’s Bar-B-Q…

Others will follow, but I am the first…

Excuse me, I have to go prepare for the new surge of visitors to this blog…

And I swear I am not making this up…

article marketing, jeff foxworthy, jeff herringWhat a treat!

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy was at the local Barnes & Noble tonight signing copies of his new book “Dirt in My Shirt.”

Genuine guy who took time to talk with everyone.

He also told Jonathon, my oldest son, that he had a daughter Jonathon’s age and to not go near her.

Video Blogging & Herbie Hancock

article marketing, video blogging, mike stewart, jeff herring As many of you know, I’m a big fan of jazz music. So I was thrilled last night when Herbie Hancock won a Grammy for Best Album of the Year!

My good buddy and colleague Mike Stewart got to meet Herbie in LA a couple of weeks ago at a convention and recorded a quick video with him on his Flip Video Recorder.

Click here to check it out…

And congratulations Herbie!

Internet Marketing Advice from Tony Soprano

Posted by Jeff Herring on 30 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Just for FUN

article marketing, internet marketing, jeff herringI’m not a huge fan of the Sopranos, but one line did catch my marketing ear the other day.

One of Tony Soprano’s underlings comes to him and asks for a bigger assignment.

Tony’s answer “Eat what’s on your plate first.”

That’s great internet marketing advice!

So many times we want to jump on the next big thing or the next big tool that will guarantee success, when we have not even used what is in front of us.

Success does not come from the next big thing. Success comes from using what is right in front of you to the fullest.

Here are some steps:

Step 1 - Open the package

Step 2 - Use it.

Step 3 - Ride the learning curve and master it.

Step 4 - Take action and make it work for you.

Step 5 - Then carefully decide what, if anything, you need next.

Have the G.U.T.S. to take action and use what you’ve got!
