Independence Day - “Freedom From” & “Freedom To”

Here in the States it’s the 4th of July - Independence Day.
Wherever you are in the world, the word independence is important to us all. That’s one of the many things I love about what is being called “the internet lifestyle.”
So here is my annual article on independence - “freedom from” and “freedom to.”
Freedom From
Freedom From - Living someone else’s dream. Many of the people that do the typical 9 to 5 day are living someone else’s dream. Even though they get a “paycheck” they are working for the benefit of someone else.
Freedom From - Boredom. Most internet entrepreneurs I know are like me. We do not handle boredom very well. That is definitely one of the advantages of this life style, as you are able to work on multiple projects that you created and enjoy.
Freedom To
Freedom To - Create not only the lifestyle you desire, but the kind of work you want to do. Creating new products and new adventures is so much fun. Remember creativity is simply looking at something that has always been there and seeing something that has never been seen before.
Freedom To - Improve. Another great freedom is to find something that is working and making it better. Alex Mandossian says it is better to improve than to invent.
Freedom To - Inspire. One of the highlights of my day and what I do is seeing my listeners and students be inspired to Go Use This Stuff and build their own businesses and create their own successes.
One of the skills necessary to live this independence lifestyle with the internet is the ability to drive traffic to your web sites and blogs.

Happy 4th of July! I hope that your move is going well. A new place and freedom to move about.
I liked your blog. It gives me pause to ponder about what freedom means to me. I particularly like “Freedom From…. and Freedom To…”
Personally I am glad that I live in a country where my dreams can come to be. I am also glad to be in a (your mentorship) program that is giving me the tools to create the life I want. I am on my way.

One of the things I like about learning from you is these little tidbits of inspiration. They remind me that I can reach my goals because people like you have already done so and you are graciously providing a path so that the rest of us can follow.

Our forefathers fought that we might have freedom - in abundance.

Independence day for me means choosing to be independent from old thoughts, habits, and conditioning that I acquired from my childhood. Freedom means the ability to choose my thoughts, and actions to create what I want in life.

I agree with you Jeff, that the only thing better (or at least as GOOD as) having the freedom from living someone else’s dream is HELPING someone live THEIR dream too! Every time someone buys my little dog training book, I know there will be a happier family and for sure a happier puppy, because dogs really do LOVE to work. Just like us, they love having a purpose, starting with making their family happy. Just an all round win-win-win situation! And I am just like you, sharing free information about what I love is so much fun that the line between what I do and what I SELL gets fuzzier every day! Keep up the great work, Jeff, you inspire us all.

As an instructor, I’ve enjoyed writing articles and sharing information about careers with others for many years. You, however, are inspiring me to create a virtual “workshop & training center”, independent from the traditional brick and mortar university. This is so exciting!

July 4th has been special to me for quite a few years now — ever since I got the green card that allowed me to stay permanently in this “Land of the Free” and “Be all you can be.”
This year, however, it will be even more special, because I finally took the big step to achieve freedom “from” in a whole new way.

Freedom to………
That is the best freedom that we celebrate today on July 4th, Independence Day.
I live in Philadelphia…where all the original “Independence” Day historical events happened in 1776. Every time I pass the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross house, Ben Franklin’s grave, etc., there is a quiet pause and I listen for the sound of Freedom.
It is very awesome.
When I sit on a part bench there, I try to imagine what the conversations were like back then on the park benches and what the discussions for the “freedom to…” must have been like.
We have a Freedom Trail here. Many are encouraged to walk it.
What is your Freedom Trail? Where does it go?
I am grateful for my own Freedom and those that went before me to help create its path.
